Is it worth leaving the corporate rat race to go cruising?

You've (thanks Keith) been asked to attend a last minute meeting with a nameless HR staff member on the 5th floor of your new gleaming Dubai headquarters at 4:30 pm. Your boss is nowhere to be seen, subsequent to your request your career counsellor has declined to attend. You're told of your fate and asked to sign a legal document. You're relieved of your work mobile and your shiny laptop and you are extended a hand of farewell by someone you don't even know.

So, the corporate machine finally spat you out in the most unceremonious manner.

You're a decent guy, but you have your foibles and your faults - this event is leaving you unsettled to say the least.

You're in a state of unanticipated CRISIS

Crisis, you say... First world problem, I hear...

Well it's all relative.

May be a time to consult cultures of old.

In Japanese Kanji, the adapted Chinese logographic text, the form of the compound word 'Crisis' is made up of two characters - one meaning 'danger' and one meaning 'opportunity'.

The ancient Asian cultures often point to stoicism and, in this case, leave you with a call to action.

See the OPPORTUNITY

I cannot lie to you and claim that it was an easy decision to make. I consulted friends and those dear to me and I owe a huge debt to a particular close friend for holding my hand through the process to get me over the line.

Let's get back to the question initially posed. Is it worth leaving the corporate rat race to buy a yacht and go cruising?

A resounding yes is my answer.

Does one still have bad days? Absolutely.

But the experience can offer one a personal growth journey that no desk job will ever be able to deliver. Sights, sounds, smells, tastes that make one feel alive and present in the moment. And the opportunity to meet people and cultures that leave you renewed after every encounter.

It's been 2 years since I embarked on this transformation and it has opened up an entirely new universe for me.

It has afforded me the opportunity to re-engage with life in a novel and rejuvenating way. Opened up never-before-seen doors to original places, invigorating experiences, fascinating people and differing cultures.

They talk about diversity in the work place...

Step outside... diversity is out there!

Are you tied to your life keeping up with the Joneses?

Could you see yourself doing this?

It's totally within reach!

I hold a key to a door, the threshold of which, I challenge you to cross...

Life is too short to spend most of it in an office building. You are truly living your life to the fullest with no regrets. Hope that you never run out of money and SailwitMelinda can support you as long as you wish.
